Flex & HSA
Employees will be limited to putting just $2,500 pre-tax salary into their flexible savings accounts (FSA) and individuals with health savings accounts (HSA) are limited to adding $3,250 this year. Those with family coverage through an HSA are limited to $6,450 this year and if you are over the age of 55, you may increase your contribution to your HSA by an additional $1000.
If you’ve been considering a big-ticket healthcare expense, such as LASIK or refractive surgery, using your FSA is one great option for saving money with little or no out-of-pocket expenses. LASIK eye surgery is one of many qualifying FSA or HSA expenditures. Check with your employer benefits coordinator for more details and let us confirm your candidacy for the surgery before you designate how much your employer deducts for your pay.
If you have funds remaining in your FSA or HSA account this year, remember you have until the end of the year to use those funds. Keep in mind the “use it or lose it” rules of an FSA or HSA. If you’ve been considering LASIK eye surgery, contact Key-Whitman to schedule a consultation. We can help you decide if a LASIK procedure is the best way to spend your remaining FSA or HSA funds.
