OptiLASIK™ with Wavelight® and Intralase® Overview

The entire LASIK procedure takes less than 20 minutes. After you have taken your Valium, numbing drops will be instilled to anesthetize the eye. During the procedure, a flap is created using IntraLase and it is gently lifted and folded back. The laser reshapes the underlying corneal tissue by emitting a computer-controlled beam of light that removes the exact amount of tissue in a matter of seconds. The corneal flap is then placed back into its original position. Due to the cornea's extraordinary bonding qualities, no stitches or patches are required.

Your eye will be shielded with protective goggles overnight. You must have someone drive you home to rest and you will return to our office the next morning. Visit our Media Center to see and hear how IntraLase can change your life.

Benefits

The laser used for LASIK can make a difference in your results. The doctors of the Key-Whitman Eye Center have chosen the Wavelight® Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q flying spot laser from Alcon® because they feel it provides safety and gives superior results. Wavelight with its German engineering is a pioneer in wavefront research. The procedure of this laser eye treatment known as OptiLASIK™, is designed to adapt to the unique curvature of your eye, reshaping it more closely to the curve of an ideal, natural eye. As a result, OptiLASIK™ helps preserve the quality of your vision by ensuring your eyes are reshaped to be able to focus more accurately.

The laser uses PerfectPulse Technology® to ensure the stability of the laser beam from the time it is created in the cavity to its exit of the laser onto your eye. It incorporates an active, fast-track eye tracker to confirm centering of the laser treatment in addition to following your eye's normal movements during the treatment. Knowing the laser is following your eye gives a great sense of security during your laser eye treatment.

As with any surgery, there are risks and the possibility of complications. These will be discussed in the office.

While there are many who benefit from LASIK, there are potential side effects including glare from bright lights, halos (rings around lights), light sensitivity, night driving glare, and visual fluctuation. Your individual risks will be discussed at the time of your consultation.
